We’ve been working on the art of smiling, lately. The girls have the most beautiful smiles, and aren’t afraid to flash them most of the time. Put them in front of a camera, though, and it’s tough to get them to do it on command. (I think they’re getting the hang of it, though. This picture’s pretty good!) We’ve been practicing, and playing a game where I say “Let me see your pretty smile.” if they do, they get a kiss on the cheek, and we all laugh, and I gush at how proud I am of them. Sometimes the whole family plays, which is really fun.
I was thinking that for a lot of people in the other world I live in, the situation is mostly backwards. No smiles in real life, plenty of fakes for the camera, plenty of on command smiles, even if there’s no real joy behind them.
Don’t be surprised if you see me in the next week asking to see your pretty smile. Joy, people. Not saying fake it, but you might need to wake up to the possibility of joy you’re missing out on. Becoming aware of the possibilty of joy may be one of the most important changes you could make in your life, and you can make it right now.
