Today we begin our project 4:4 journey through the word of God! I’m not going to blog the readings every day, but sure they’ll often show up here, just as I hope they show up in all sorts of conversations in our church! Remember: we read this as a community! Don’t be timid about sharing with others about how the reading is going for you, and thoughts that come to you as you listen for God’s heart in the scriptures.
Today, as I read today’s reading, the creation and garden stories in Genesis 1-3, I really settled inti the mythic style or these texts. It’s wonderfully poetic, a beautiful way of describing the beginnings of all we are. It’s also a wonderful text about the character of God, and I thought about how freely God gives in these chapters. Even in the punishment part of the story, God is very graceful. In particular, I’m still thinking about the simple gracious act in which God clothes the man and woman, to cover their shame. This seems to me to be a wonderful act of friendship.
